A reconfiguration and remodelling of the existing infant and junior school included a new two-storey modular classroom extension, providing a one form-entry expansion.

The scheme was used to enhance a standard module system to integrate natural ventilation, thermal mass and key elements suiting the site’s identity and context. This new benchmark is now delivered as standard by the off-site contractor to the market.

The building achieved BREEAM ‘Very Good’ through the use of photo voltaic cells, natural ventilation and incorporation of phase-change materials to provide thermal mass. Use of modular off- site construction significantly reduced the construction period to 7 months, with a completion in August 2012.

The external cladding of fibre cement panels and timber weatherboarding was used to break up the overall mass whilst providing a visual connection with the existing school.
